H.35 The H20 Bill
Vermont's Clean Water Bill H.35 passed in both the Vermont House and Senate with little opposition. At the 2015 Governor's Cup, a catch-and-release fishing derby that raises funds for Lake Champlain International, we asked several participants to comment on the bill. While most agree that the bill is a step in the right direction, there are still many that feel the bill doesn't go far enough to solve the ongoing problems associated with clean water within the Lake Champlain basin.
Outdoor Journal Turns 13!
Vermont PBS’ Outdoor Journal, celebrating outdoor recreation in the northeast, enters its teen years, as the venerable program premiered its 13th season on Jan. 27, 2015. Winner of numerous regional and national awards, Outdoor Journal raises awareness of Vermont’s natural landscape and the region’s wondrous array of outdoor recreational opportunities.
The program welcomes back hosts Lawrence Pyne and Gina Bullard as they lead us on a variety of outdoor activities and local conservation efforts. A new weekly segment this season, My Outdoor Journal, features stories brought to us by some of our dedicated viewers, highlighting some of their favorite outdoor pursuits.
Highlights from the new season include kayak fishing on the Connecticut River; a deep-woods hiking trail in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom; owl banding in Addison County; white-water rafting in the Berkshires; a new hunter mentoring program; and a segment on the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps. There’s hunting, fishing, autumn horseback riding, family hiking excursions and much more.
Program producer Neil Hilt shared his excitement for the new season. “Most Vermonters have a deep connection to the natural landscape that’s all around us, and Outdoor Journal tries to honor and celebrate that relationship. It’s great to be able to bring our viewers an all-new 13th season – and this year, we’ve included some of their experiences, as well.”
